Information about the service

The service

A home broadband internet service over the nbn fixed-line network, supplied month to month. Boost uses the Home Fast speed tier and is available on FTTP, HFC, FTTC, FTTB and FTTN connections. It is not available on nbn Fixed Wireless or Satellite.

Speed by connection
Your nbn connectionMaximum (down/up)Typical evening
FTTP and HFC500/50 Mbps450 Mbps
FTTC, FTTB and FTTN100/20 Mbps90 Mbps

Same plan, same price, whichever connection you have. The speed you get is set by your nbn connection type.

What's included
  • Unlimited data. No shaping, no throttling.
  • An IPv6 /60, and an IPv4 address shared with other customers (carrier-grade NAT, CGNAT). The addresses come with the service and return to us when it ends. Services connected before public IPs became an add-on keep theirs at no charge until they turn it off.
  • Support by phone and email from the people who run the network.
What's not included
  • No modem or router. You bring your own. We connect by IPoE: your router gets its address by DHCP, untagged, with no PPPoE, no VLAN and no username or password. On FTTP, HFC and FTTC, any router with an Ethernet WAN port that supports DHCP works, plugged into your nbn connection box. On FTTN and FTTB you need a VDSL2 modem-router (with vectoring support) that plugs into your phone wall socket. We’ll help you set it up.
  • No phone service. This service cannot make calls, including calls to 000. Keep a mobile phone for emergencies. We don’t offer Priority Assistance, and the Customer Service Guarantee doesn’t apply (it only covers voice services). Read our important information about your nbn service before you connect, especially if you have a medical or security alarm.
Minimum term

None. Month to month, cancel any time from the portal or by contacting us. No early termination charge.

Information about pricing

Monthly price

$89 a month, including GST.

Optional extras

Public IPv4 address: $10 a month, including GST. Billed like the plan, by the day while it’s on; turn it on or off in the portal or the app. Turning it on or off drops the connection for about 30 seconds and changes your IPv4 address.

How you're charged

Your first month ($89 including GST), plus the first month of the Public IP add-on ($10 including GST) if you choose it, is charged to your card when you order. We only place your connection order with nbn once that payment succeeds; if it fails, the order lapses and you owe nothing. Month one starts on the day your service goes live, not the day you order.

After that you’re billed monthly in advance, on the anniversary of your go-live date: each invoice pays for the month ahead and is charged automatically to your card. Each invoice shows the GST.

If we can’t connect you, or you cancel before your service goes live, we refund your first month in full.

Minimum total cost

$89 including GST — one month’s price. Setup fee: $0.

Early termination charge

$0. Cancelling takes effect immediately, and we refund the unused days of the month you’ve paid for, pro-rata, to the card you paid with (or pay you directly if it can’t go back to the card). Nothing is charged after you cancel.

Other charges

Only charges nbn makes to us that we pass on at cost, and we always tell you about them before you incur them: a new development charge; an nbn connection box or fibre upgrade that some premises need for faster tiers; nbn’s fee for relocating nbn equipment when you ask for it to be moved; or an nbn fee for a missed appointment or an incorrect call-out (never where nbn or we caused it). We add them to your next invoice at cost; they’re not charged at checkout. No usage, excess or late payment charges.

Changing plan

Free. It takes effect when nbn completes the change, usually within a day or two. The pro-rata price difference for the rest of the month you’ve paid for is added to your next invoice if you upgrade, or credited on it if you downgrade. If you move because your line can’t reach your plan, see “If your line can’t reach this speed” below.

Price changes

We give you at least 30 days’ notice by email. A new price only applies from a billing period that starts after the notice ends, and you can leave before then at no cost.

Billing and payment

Debit or credit card saved on your account and charged automatically, processed by Stripe. Fee-free alternative: you can ask to pay by bank transfer (EFT) instead. If a card payment fails, we email you and retry on days 1, 3, 7 and 14, and you can update your card or pay now from the portal at any time. No card surcharge and no late payment fees. Invoices are emailed to you and kept in the portal.

Speed

Typical evening speed

The download speed we expect customers on this plan to get during the busy period, 7pm to 11pm: 450 Mbps on FTTP and HFC; 90 Mbps on FTTC, FTTB and FTTN.

This is our initial estimate. We don’t yet have three months of measured busy-period data from our own customers, and we’ll replace this figure with measured results once we do.

Maximum speed

500 Mbps download and 50 Mbps upload on FTTP and HFC; 100 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload on FTTC, FTTB and FTTN. This is the most the tier can deliver, not a speed you’ll see all the time.

What affects speed

Your nbn connection type and, on FTTN and FTTB, the length and condition of the copper line; your router, Wi-Fi and devices; your home wiring; and the website or service you’re using. See Broadband speeds for detail and how to test.

If your line can't reach this speed

Some lines, mostly FTTN and FTTB, can’t reach their tier’s maximum. nbn reports the maximum speed your line can attain, and we check it once you’re connected. If it can’t reach this plan, we’ll tell you, and you can choose: move to a plan your line can reach, and we refund the price difference back to the day your service went live; or leave without paying anything more, and we refund the unused part of any period you’ve already paid for.
